Ultra Low Dose CT

Overview

Ultra low dose CT scans are designed to deliver the same high quality diagnostic images while using significantly less radiation. This makes them particularly suitable for follow up imaging, lung screening and patients requiring repeated scans.

At Newton Radiology, we offer Ultra-Low Dose CT (ULD-CT) – a cutting-edge imaging technology that delivers detailed diagnostic information comparable to a conventional CT scan while maintaining radiation exposure at levels close to, or lower than, standard X-ray series.

Ultra-Low Dose CT is not suitable for all CT examinations or body parts. Where clinically appropriate, ULD-CT is commonly used for imaging the facial bones (including the sinuses, mastoids, and TMJs), extremities, chest, and KUB (kidneys, ureters, and bladder).

Patient Preparation

Preparation may vary depending on the type of CT scan being performed.

You may be asked to fast for a short period prior to your appointment. If there is any chance you may be pregnant, or if you have diabetes, kidney issues or allergies, please inform our staff before your scan.

Some scans require contrast dye, which is administered through a small injection into a vein in your arm. If contrast is required, a cannula may be inserted before the scan.

On arrival, you may be asked to complete a medical questionnaire and change into a gown.

During the scan, it is important to remain still to ensure clear images. You may also be asked to hold your breath for short periods.
